Why need to upgrade account
Since version 2.4.0, all MYKEY accounts are classified into the following two types, the difference is whether there is an emergency contact of MYKEY Lab.
- Self-service account: account without the emergency contact of MYKEY Lab
- Assisted account: account with the emergency contact of MYKEY Lab
There is no emergency contact for the self-service account, means that you need to keep the recovery phrase properly and accounts cannot be recovered once lost. If you lose the recovery phrase of an assisted account, the phrase can be replaced by the emergency contact. Moreover after initiating an account request with the recovery phrase, user can ask for the emergency contact to speed up the request.
We strongly suggest users upgrading their self-service accounts to assisted accounts, which can greatly improve account security.

How to upgrade
Please prepare the following before upgrading your account
- Recovery phrase of the account
- No ongoing account requests
- No new blockchain feature being enabled
The following steps are required to upgrade your account
- Enter the recovery phrase of this account
- Verify your identity
- Wait for MYKEY Lab to confirm and send the transaction to the blockchain
- Wait for the data in the contract to take effect 21 days later (No new blockchain can be enabled during this period)
I can't find the recovery phrase
Please visit through "Me - Manage Account - Export Recovery Phrase" to view whether the phrase has been exported or not. You cannot upgrade your account if you have already exported the recovery phrase and lost it. It's recommended to sign up a new MYKEY account and transfer the assets to the new one.
Why need to verify the identity information
One's identity will be compared to the one from account upgrade when he needs assistance from MYKEY Lab. The user will get helped after the identity is confirmed to be the same.
Can I upgrade multiple self-service accounts to assisted accounts
At present, each identity can only be verified once which means one assisted account can be linked to an identity. In the future, restrictions will be removed as appropriate, allowing one identity to be linked to multiple assisted accounts.
Is there any different from accounts signed up in version 2.4.0 or before
The accounts signed-up for free are all assisted accounts in MYKEY version 2.4.0 or before. The others are self-service accounts which were created through paid sign-up.
